It startles her just a touch to be spoken to by anyone other than Lenore. Since the moment she'd been dragged into the castle and chained up in the dungeon, the guards and soldiers had maintained a stony - if nervy - silence around her. She turns her aureate gaze on the woman, unsure how to take the comment. There's the small, sick part of her that thinks she ought to defend her former Kingdom, to answer back as bitingly as she would have done whilst caged.
She has to admit, though, that the desert-dry tone in which it's said is kinda funny, and just a little bit badass. Particularly given Gideon's reputation, and the fact that she is - right now - entirely unrestrained.
"Upbringing?" she says eventually, one brow raised high, "try updragging. Who even knows why they kept me around at all, really. It sure as hell wasn't out of the kindness of their hearts."
