"No," Laurent said, horrified at the thought. He let go of Gansey and took a step back, turning away again. "I won't hurt you." It wasn't a promise, it was a statement of truth. Laurent wasn't cruel. He wanted to protect the people under his care, those in the opera house and below it, and he wanted to protect Gansey most of all. He would not allow Gansey to be hurt.

"This place is dangerous," Laurent warned him, continuing along the way into the kitchen. "Be careful."
