Alec knew what he should say. He knew what Izzy would tell him to say but instead he gritted his teeth and remained silent. Every time he spoke, things spiraled out of control. If he said what he was thinking, Adam would probably punch him. By the Angel, it really was like dealing with Jace, except he'd never angered Alec the way Adam seemed to be able to.
"The person you'll negotiate with is me," he said, keeping his tone neutral. "I'll have everything set up by tomorrow morning." Even if he had to spend the entire night debating with the Clave, he'd get it done.
"I would have made the same offer to Izzy or Jace," he snapped, pushing away from the wall and shoving his hands into his jacket. He wouldn't say anything about dating since it was obvious that particular idea had been a foolish one. "Call either one of them my pet and see what happens." He was tempted to say something, but he knew that Adam would probably ditch him somewhere if he did. Reminding himself that his duties were more important than winning an argument, he glared over toward the food court. "We're going to have to hurry if you don't want to be late to class."
