I wanted to kiss you last night, you thought I wanted more, and it all went awry. I don't want to go back to your room thinking it might be okay to try for a kiss if you think we should wait until after we've had a formal date."

He increasingly wanted to kiss Alec here and now, to take the impulse before he started overthinking everything and building up expectations around it. The combination of nerves and desire was more than he knew what to deal with, so he just looked at Alec's hand instead, playing nervously with his fingers.
