Adam trembled almost imperceptibly at the kiss to his scar, but Alec was so gentle and affectionate that he relaxed again quickly, grateful that Alec still wanted him despite all of Adam's damage.

When Alec went still, Adam also went still, frightened that he'd done something wrong or had gone too far. But then Alec spoke again and Adam was reassured by the heat and desire in his words.
